Hubbard
Hubbard remains a picturesque village at the south end of Long Lake, but it grew as the community serving the Shell Prairie and remains surrounded by beautiful fields, a pleasant contradiction to the "up north" landscape. Originally, it was called Manter, then Brighton and finally Hubbard after the county and former Gov. Lucius Frederick Hubbard. In the 1890s Hubbard had a water powered flour and grist mill with a 60,000-bushel grain elevator. The dam remains with a well used swimming beach just upstream. Long Lake Theater is located in historic Hubbard. Learn more about the theater and Hubbard at http://www.longlaketheater.net.
