Lake George

Just minutes east of Itasca State Park, Lake George has its own distinct personality as an outdoor recreation area. The community's roots go back to the logging days when an entrepreneur built a grocery store, hotel and restaurant on the west shores of Lake George, along the road where tote teams hauled supplies from the railroad in Park Rapids to the village of Bemidji. Today many of its shops are outlets for unique items produced in the area, from moccasins to the work of local artisans. The annual Blueberry Festival honors the berry – in all its tasty forms.
